I have modified Shadmars epic god rays shader a bit to emit rays from a specific point in the scene, and so far it looks pretty good. However now there's a small problem that I need to get over to make it look much more realistic.
If you notice in the screenshot, the trees in the distance are casting shadows that stretch over the ground which the player is standing on, which is obviously not possible.
I suppose this is the limit of a post processing effect.
Do you guys have any ideas about how I could hide the parts of the rays that should be hidden behind geometry that's closer to the camera?
