3DFoundry is getting a makeover!

Just so nobody complains about it being completely borked.. I'm undertaking a well-needed makeover on the 3DFoundry site. I'm combining what I had of the old 3drad wiki, the forum archive, the defunct site and the files to make a complete one-stop site for anything relating to 3DRad.

If anyone has a guide, tutorial or addon they want to see on there, send me a PM and I'll throw it up there. I may also consider moving it to a new paid domain name in the future, but you never know

Use a .tk domain. No need to waste money on a paid domain.

Went hard drive dumpster diving, and found a whole heap of old demos, games and versions of 3DRad I forgot I even had. There's a few I uploaded to the site that nobody else appears to have, so check it out if you're still working with the old girl

Thanks to a recent event with issues accessing attachments on the proboards forum, I dug up my dump of 3drad.boards.net before I nuked my account. It can be accessed from http://3dfoundry.tk/archive/pb/. While the attachments are there, the names are still the numbers from the PB database. So to use them at this stage, simply add the .3dr to them (or whatever extension the files were, I'm going to sort it out soon so this will be not needed)

To save server space, I stripped out the avatars from the pages. The 'Games' and 'Wallpapers' section is missing as well, but if anyone needs the links, I can put them onto the main 3DFoundry page.

Do you have a patreon for the domain you where talking about?
@drninkeo, is it possible you could keep the games section?

I don't have a patreon for it at all, mainly because the .TK name doesn't cost anything, and the server costs cover this site and my personal one as well.

The games page only contained links to dropbox files. It wouldn't take much to put it back on the archive

Thank you to the guys that emailed me about the Proboards forum missing content, mainly stuff that stretches past the first page.  Unfortunately I've discovered this is because of all the Javascript creating issues for my archiving software, and they're missing from my initial dump as well. Might need some extra help on this...

@drninkeo, do you by some chance have any idea which JS parts of the site break the crawler?

From my time editing the files, it's the way the theme is put together that breaks everything unfortunatly. Disabling javascript makes everything hard to put back on top, with it on it freaks out about not being on the original URL.

The way I'm thinking that's probably easiest if it's possible is to make an account on there and lock it to the original, plain theme. The crawler should be able to get over it easier with that enabled.

Ah damn, I get it. Some actions like the js async posts page load. Unfortunately I can't do a lot on that as it's ProBoards built-in.

Ahh, that'd explain a fair bit. I'll see what else I can try, if it comes to it I might be able to do the mobile site instead :P

Yes, I think the mobile site is quite simplified.

Even though the mobile site looks like its from 2002, it might be the way forward. I'll report back on how this goes

@powersupersport the mobile version looks like a winner. Though all it does is force the page to load the stock proboards theme, bypassing the custom one on there. Whether it'll miss pages or not is to be seen later after I run the crawler over it.

Yes, that's why I was so frustrated with the mobile version as it didn't allow me to have any customization. But I guess that's for good now

@powersupersport Archive's done, funnily enough the entire mobile site is only 50mb after I remove the tracking scripts out of it, compared to nearly 700mb after I did the original desktop version :P

Only boards I don't have are the ones requiring login (mainly the artists and players experience boards). I do have all pages of the pre-existing threads on the other hand.

I have adjusted the permissions on the boards that are locked out for guests. You can back them up as well if you want.

And yes, I do think that the mobile version is actually better for that case as it's lightweight.

Cheers man, may as well grab everything while I'm at it.

And that's done, I'm about to reupload the site. Here's the complete list of things I've changed if anyones interested:
- Switched to mobile site to reduce complexity within the pages
- Added Games section
- Added Wallpaper showcase section
- Fixed page pagination issue (all pages should be now accessible)
- Attachments available to download (all should be present, script coming soon to correct names)

The games and wallpapers sections were basically redesigned to fit in with the rest of the site, as they still used the pimped out theme we had. Wallpapers are only the scaled down versions, the full versions aren't available at the moment.
