Allright, guys! We had a great test this Saturday and I had a ton of fun! Next Saturday (March 3rd) we'll have another private test, so anyone interested can still tell me.
Please, and I emphasize on that, I need you to be able to join our voice chat (no talking required from your side, but recommended). Make sure you can use Google Hangouts (it has some compatibility problems with other browsers, but runs on Google Chrome) at least until we switch to Discord. Troubleshooting is a pain in the ass via text.
Also, I plan to progressively post video updates on how the game is going, just like my Geometry dash project 2 years ago, as I want to start engaging people with the development and the game itself.
Anyways, I am looking forward to playing with more of you! Message me earlier, so we can discuss time (due to timezones).
@tinsoldier, the map in the video is a test map and it is a bit smaller (4 players). But the real reason is that I wasn't able to make a system for changing the map realtime.
And I am really sorry that you have to go through the trouble of installing Chrome just for Hangouts. Unfortunately, Hangouts is the best voicechat/screenshare service for me at the moment. I tried Discord, but it cuts off the beginning of the sentence when you start talking. Until that's fixed, we'd have to stick with Hangouts.
@powersupersport I didn't install chrome just for testing and chat, it was already installed due to issue's with firefox from time to time.
Chrome was just left unused.
I find it funny how both firefox and chrome have issues on some websites, were firefox works and chrome has issues, then other web pages chrome works and Firefox has the issues...
Cant say why this happens but i'd guess it's just bad programmers on all sides of the fields including web developers and the browser companies.
EDIT @powersupersport on discord is there an option for VOX control ( it auto mutes the mic till you talk ) there is often a sensitivity control that may need adjustment. VOX is one option of 3 being VOX (Voice-Operated Transmit) or PTT (Push To Talk) or Always on
You really need to share info on this project test wel before the test happens.
Dropping info in our lap 30 minutes before the test happens isn't a good thing.
For instance... you talk about using hangouts and / or discord but haven't decided which yet, or haven't bothered to tell us which...
I say this because i don't have a discord profile, i don't even know if i need one, i've never used it cause i already have so many communication apps / process's i am getting a little tired of installing creating profiles for things i may only use once or never....
Please share more info before the event is suppose to happen.. it's a good thing called planning ahead..
if you guys are having so much trouble with discord or hangouts, set up team speak, it's a bit hard to set up for the server but everything else should be fine, also not to mention the unmatched voice quality it has.
One solution that I know of that works very well is "Zoom." They built up their system to be used by large companies and having seen it in action multiple times, I know how effective and painless it can be. On the down side their free subscription plan is a bit limiting when doing group calls.
Hangouts is the best (and easiest to use) free solution as far I can tell. Keep in mind the free factor and no subscriptions (Software will always have its flaws).
@f1andre, @gamedeveloper0, I am trying to make it as easy as possible with no software download/install necessary and no registration as these things can be quite annoying especially if you're never going to use this software again.
Just reminding you guys that we're going to have a private test tomorrow (Saturday) at 6PM GMT. If you're interested in testing the game, please make sure you message me. Looking forward to play with you
