Hey, guys. Before getting to the actual question, I just want to remind you that we have a contribute page. I was thinking that all of you would've seen it already as it is literally in the navigation menu, at a very visible place. But... my analytics tell me another story - barely anyone visited it.
Anyways, back to the topic. Ads - these rectangles that usually make you mad.
There are three sides of ad serving - advertisers (people creating the ad), publishers (people displaying the ad) and end users (people that view the ad). Advertisers create ads to spread the word for their product/service, publishers then display the ad to their people, then those people might be interested into buying the product/service the ad offers, which supports both the advertiser and the publisher.
Let's imagine that the end user suddenly disappears from the cycle. If ads don't reach to any users, advertisers don't have a reason to advertise, which leads to publishers relying on ads to have significant loss, or even stop functioning completely.
I am a publisher on this site, and I serve ads trying to at least cover the expenses of server support. Yes, we utilize a paid hosting service for best user experience.
Now, here's the thing. I was surprized to see that more than 50% of you use AdBlock. And I am not going to force you to turn it off, in the end, it's your web browser. It's all about mindset.
I hated ads when I was a bit younger, and indeed used adblock. Becoming a publisher made me realize that a lot of people have to display ads in order to provide content for free, to maintain their service, or to self-sustain in general.
Here's the thing. You might think: "There are a lot of other people that display ads, so why would I care?" Well, that's how it gets started. As I've said - more than 50% of you have adblock enabled and it really has an noticeable impact.
So guys, please, ClassDev needs your support. You're a switch away from supporting ClassDev. Especially while we just got started as a community. Please, stop your AdBlock.
And a disclaimer. You probably have the worst experience with popup/onclick/audio/other annoying ads. Don't worry, this site does not display any of them.
